Dutch Grand Prix 2023

In its third year, the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix again made headlines around the world with an unforgettable edition, which was attended by more than 300,000 spectators. The scenes of partying fans in the pouring rain to the symphonic sounds of André Rieu and DJ La Fuenta symbolized the unique atmosphere that has characterized the Dutch Grand Prix.

OUR HISTORY

1948
The first international race

Zandvoort and racing have been connected since the late 1930s. Mayor Henri van Alphen saw a good opportunity to put Zandvoort back on the map with the construction of a racing circuit. The construction of Circuit Zandvoort was postponed until after the war. On 7 August 1948, the first international race was held at Circuit Zandvoort. Winner of this race was Prince Bira of Siam. At this time, the track had only five named corners: Corner of Tarzan, Hunserug, Scheivlak, Bos In and Bos Uit.

1952
The first Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix

In the 1950s, the track through the dunes was fully embraced by Formula 1. The race was renamed 'Grote Prijs van Nederland' and in 1952, the race was part of the official Formula 1 World Championship for the first time, which consisted of only eight races.

1960's
The British dominate Formula 1

The Zandvoort circuit is one of the big standouts on the racing calendar in the 1960s. At this time, British racing drivers dominated Formula 1. From 1960 to 1969, no fewer than six times a Briton won the Grand Prix at Zandvoort. Graham Hill won the Dutch Grand Prix in 1962, Jim Clark the editions of 63', 64', 65' and 67' and Jackie Stewart the editions of 68' and 69'.

1970
A new hero is born

For many, Niki Lauda is not just the favourite from the 1970s, but from all of F1 history. Lauda topped the podium no less than 25 times in his Formula 1 career, 17 of which were in the 1970s . Besides Lauda, Emerson Fittipaldi, Jackie Steward and James Hunt were Heroes in the 70s.

1985
The last before a new decade

The 1985 race was an absolute thriller at Zandvoort, with Niki Lauda holding off Alain Prost for his last victory in F1 and, for the time being, the last Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix.

2019
We are back on track!

For the F1 Dutch Grand Prix, the circuit has been prepared in record time for the return of the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix. Its unique character is untouched. On 4 March 2020, Max Verstappen drove the Legendary Lap in a Red Bull F1 car, opening the Circuit Zandvoort.

2021
It's time to make history again!

With the return of Formula 1, history returned to the circuit, but in a modern guise. Many tens of thousands of race fans, mostly dressed in orange, experienced the first F1 race in 36 years at the renovated circuit again. Under the watchful eye of the Dutch royal couple, Max Verstappen drove to his first victory on home soil.

2022
We are ready for more

The tone was set for the 2022 edition; this edition should be even bigger, more beautiful and spectacular now that all COVID measures had disappeared. On 4 September 2022 under the slogan 'Ready for More', another huge party was built in Zandvoort. For three days, more than a hundred thousand people travelled to Zandvoort. This by bike, shuttle bus or public transport. While artists like Afrojack and La Fuente treated fans to a wonderful atmosphere in the stands, Max Verstappen provided the icing on the cake with a resounding victory for the second year in a row.

2023
Like no other

Sun and rain, interruptions and spectacular overtaking maneuvers; the third consecutive Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix at the Circuit Zandvoort circuit had it all. That made this edition different from the previous two, but anything but less captivating. The fans didn't let anything stop them from making it a party and neither did the drivers. But after the roaring engines fell silent, one thing was unchanged: Max Verstappen could be cheered as the winner.

THE MOST CHALLENGING TRACK

Former driver Jan Lammers is a child of Zandvoort and has been coming to the circuit since childhood. The sporting director of the F1 Dutch Grand Prix proudly fulfilled an important role in the organization in recent years. And as an enthusiast racefan himself, he was not disappointed. “I am really proud how we have restored the legacy of the Dutch GP. The setting and the whole picture are phenomenal. For two seasons now we have been making new history at the most challenging and beautiful circuit in Europe and perhaps in the world. And we are far from finished.”

Zandvoort attracts as many as five million day tourists every year because of its beautiful beaches and surroundings. On top of that, Zandvoort is really close to Amsterdam, the best-visited city in The Netherlands. As a result, Zandvoort is also known as Zandvoort ‘Beach for Amsterdam’.

Therefore, Zandvoort is ideal to combine the race weekend with a day at the beach or a trip to our lively capital. There will also be many side events at and around the race track throughout the weekend, so race fans will definitely be able to enjoy themselves.
